Opposition Party Calls for Investigation into Yaya Dillo’s Death Amid Assassination Claims
N’Djamena, Chad – A major opposition party in Chad is demanding an independent investigation into the death of prominent opposition figure Yaya Dillo, following allegations that he was assassinated.
Dillo, a vocal critic of the ruling government and leader of the Socialist Party Without Borders (PSF), was killed earlier this year under circumstances that remain unclear. Authorities initially described the incident as a security operation, but critics and family members claim he was deliberately targeted.
In a statement released this week, the opposition accused the government of orchestrating Dillo’s death to silence dissent ahead of key political transitions. The party is now urging regional bodies and international human rights organizations to step in and support a transparent probe.
“We believe Yaya Dillo was assassinated for his political views,” the statement read. “We demand an impartial investigation to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.”
The government has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that Dillo died during an armed confrontation. However, growing pressure from civil society groups and international observers has reignited calls for clarity and justice.
Dillo had previously survived an attack on his home in 2021 and remained a fierce critic of the military-led transitional government. His death has heightened political tensions in Chad, where concerns over democratic governance and human rights remain front and center.
Analysts warn that failure to investigate could further erode public trust in state institutions and deepen political unrest.
