Navy Commander Bernard M. Tabala – Covid-19 Fraud in the U.S. and Impunity in Cameroon
Back in 2019, we brought you an investigation into a Cameroonian military officer who would later be promoted to Navy Commander. That man is Bernard M. Tabala—a name that continues to resurface in scandals spanning continents.
This time, our digging has uncovered yet another disturbing twist.
Covid-19 Fraud in Arizona-United States
During the Covid-19 pandemic, states across America were drained of billions through fraudulent unemployment claims. Our investigation has uncovered credible information linking Commander Tabala to such schemes in the state of Arizona, where pandemic relief funds were systematically exploited.
We attempted to reach out to Commander Tabala to ask whether this was a case of stolen identity, since he reportedly did not travel to the U.S. during that period. But he deliberately refused to cooperate with our inquiries. His silence leaves us with little choice but to believe he acted in concert with individuals in the United States to siphon taxpayer money intended for struggling families.
A Pattern of Abuse and Impunity in Cameroon
This is not the first time Tabala’s name has been tied to misconduct. In Cameroon, multiple sources allege that he operates a torture chamber, targeting those who dare to question authority.
Among those who have suffered under his command:
Pastor John Chi – respected religious leader
Longkana Agno Simon Alias Longue Longue – popular Cameroonian artist
And many others too fearful to reveal their identities
For victims, the uniform that should represent protection has instead become a symbol of fear, intimidation, and systematic silencing.
Soldiers Who Build vs. Soldiers Who Destroy
Across Africa, soldiers are writing very different stories. In Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has become a symbol of resistance, standing shoulder to shoulder with his people to reclaim their dignity and future.
In Mali, Guinea, Niger, and Burkina Faso, military leaders have stepped into governance not to terrorize, but to rebuild roads, reopen schools, protect farmland, and shield communities from external threats. Their uniforms symbolize hope and renewal.
Commander Tabala stands in stark contrast:
Where Traoré wears his uniform as a banner of hope, Tabala stains his with brutality and shame.
Where others fight oppression, Tabala turns his power against his own brothers and sisters.
Where some soldiers help build their countries, Tabala tears his apart.
It is a heartbreaking betrayal—when those sworn to protect become the very hand that strikes.
Why This Matters
The world cannot look away when individuals with criminal footprints abroad are empowered with unchecked authority at home. Tabala’s case raises urgent questions:
How does someone convicted of crimes in the U.S. rise to such a high rank in Cameroon’s navy?
Why do allegations of torture and abuse against civilians continue without accountability?
And how deep does his network of collaborators reach, both in Cameroon and abroad?
